Gallery: The Triumphal Arch of Palmyra in Washington D.C.
The Triumphal Arch of Palmyra was unveiled on the National Mall in Washington D.C. on September 26th, 2018. Chairman Ed Royce and Ranking Member Eliot Engel of the House Foreign Affairs Committee spoke at the unveiling. The two congressmen have worked tirelessly for legislation to protect cultural heritage.
Gallery: ‘Old Cities, New Eyes’ at the United Nations
On August 6th, 2018, the IDA opened a two week exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. ‘Old Cities, New Eyes’ was created in collaboration with the UK Permanent Mission to the United Nations and AccuCities, a London-based VR and 3D modeling company. Featuring a VR experience of modern London as well as a model of London, alongside an exhibition of historical and modern photographs of Palmyra, ‘Old Cities, New Eyes’ showcased 200 years of imaging technology, and it’s impact on cultural heritage.
Gallery: UN Installation, November 2017
On November 21st, 2017, the IDA in collaboration with the Italian Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the Dubai Future Foundation opened an exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The exhibition featured the recreated bust and head of the statue of Allat that was partially destroyed in Palmyra in 2015. The replica shows the bust of the statue as it was in the Museum of Palmyra, but the head has been carved as it appears after it was defaced. High powered projectors were used to overlay an image of the statue onto the carved stone head. The exhibition ran for one week in the delegates hall of the UN.

In September of 2017, members of the Dubai Future Foundation, the IDA's partner organization, visited Oxford to tour the Centre for Future Design facilities and meet with members of the University.

Mr. Roger Michel and Dr. Alexy Karenowska formally announced the Arona 2020 Fund on June 26th, 2017. The fund will support the restoration of Parco della Rocca Borromea di Arona.

Gallery: Future Opportunity Exchange (FOx) in Oxford
The Future Opportunity Exchange, launched in collaboration with Magdalen College Oxford is an outreach program aimed at talented and gifted young people from state schools around the country. By combining teacher conferences, school visits and an annual residential student conference, FOx introduces students to the University as well as subjects such as Archaeology, Physics, Art History and more.

Gallery: Pottery Workshop in Arona, Italy
In July 2017 members of the IDA, The Khaled al-Asaad Museum in Arona and volunteers from the city of Arona teamed up to deliver a series of pottery workshops for local children. Participants learned about the history and form of traditional Greek and Roman pottery and had the opportunity to create their own pieces. Their work was the displayed in the museum alongside the IDA's exhibition on the Triumphal Arch of Palmyra.
Gallery: Prof. Nigel Wilson Portrait Unveiling
A portrait of Prof. Nigel Wilson was unveiled at Lincoln College in Spring 2017. Rev. Henry Woudhuysen accepted the portrait on behalf of the college. The event was attended by fellow members of Lincoln College, former students and friends.
Gallery: Faces in Stone at the Italian Consulate NYC
On June 1st, 2017, the IDA's 'Faces in Stone' exhibition opened at the Italian Consulate in New York City. The piece, a 3D replica of the head of Palmyra's Allat Statue in its current, highly damaged state, was placed in the entry of the consulate. A projector superimposed an image onto the statue of the piece before it sustained significant damage. Along with the unveiling of the statue, the consulate also hosted a panel discussion with the IDA's Mr. Roger Michel, Dr. Alexy Karenowksa, Andrea Angeli from the Italian Foreign Ministry, Antonella Caruso from UNDP, Herb Golder of Boston University, Giacomo Massari of TorArt and Helen Malko from Columbia GSAPP. After the panel, a short excerpt from the Arabic translation of The Heracleidae, directed by Kat Yen and performed by Mouna R'miki and Veracity Butcher.
Gallery: The Arch in Arona, Italy
The IDA's replica of the Triumphal Arch of Palmyra arrived in Arona on April 28th, 2017. After a ceremony which brought over 30,000 people to the central square of Arona, the Arch became a focal point for cultural activities in the city through the end of September. Workshops for children, concerts, lectures and celebrations were held around the arch throughout the summer. Members of the Mayor's office of Arona also traveled to the US and UK to discuss the importance of cultural heritage in the city and on a larger scale.
Gallery: Unveiling in City Hall Park, New York City
On Monday September 19th, the Institute for Digital Archaeology, in collaboration with the New York City Mayor's Office and Dubai's Foundation of the Future, unveiled their replica of the Triumphal Arch of Palmyra in City Hall Park, NYC. The event was apart of UN General Assembly week in New York City. Accompanying events included a tactile exhibition and discussion panel at the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Books Library and a concert in the park in honor of the 35th anniversary of Simon & Garfunkel's 'Concert in the Park'.
Gallery: World Heritage Strategy Forum 2016
The World Heritage Strategy Forum took place from September 9 - 11th at Harvard University. The forum brought together world leaders and experts from ICOMOS, UNESCO and the World Customs Organization as well as architects, archaeologists, visual artists and others working to protect and preserve our shared cultural heritage. Over 40 speakers and 200 attendees spent the weekend learning and sharing, creating new partnerships that the IDA hopes will have a marked impact on cultural heritage policy world wide.
Gallery: Unveiling in Trafalgar Square
On Tuesday April 19th, 2016, the Institute for Digital Archaeology, in collaboration with the London Mayor's Office and Dubai's Foundation of the Future, unveiled a 1/3 scale replica of the Triumphal Arch of Palmyra in London's Trafalgar Square. The arch sat on the square for three days where it was accessible to the public. Accompanying educational demonstrations and theatrical workshops took place on the square and the nearby St. Martin-in-the-Fields.

Gallery: SCS/AIA Conference 2016 Presentation
On January 7th, 2016, Dr. Alexy Karenowska and Benjamin Altshuler presented to the Joint SCS/AIA Annual Meeting on the Million Image Database and upcoming reconstruction projects in London and New York City. The presentation included never-before-seen images of endangered sites from inside Syria.

The IDA Conference on Digital Imaging in Archaeology was held at the Ioannou Centre, Oxford from May 30-31st 2015. The weekend was one of excellent scholarship with a wide variety of presentations. Delegates heard everything from the potential of underwater RTI to how the brain reacts to digital material. On January 10th, 2015, the IDA hosted its annual APA dinner. This year the dinner honoured the current APA/SCS President, and key advisor to the IDA, Dr. Roger Bagnall. The dinner was held at Preservation Hall in New Orleans.

Held in the Tower of London, this wonderful event celebrated the birthdays of three of the most respected women in Classics, Mary Beard, Pat Easterling and Joyce Reynolds. All three of these women, from Newnham College Cambridge, have helped pave the way for women in Classics and other academic fields. Their birthdays brought together a diverse group, from fellow academics to the editor of Tatler.

Newnham College hosted a day of presentations and a luncheon honouring the pioneering classicist Joyce Reynolds, whose work at Aphrodisias has inspired generations. A formal dinner was held to acknowledge Joyce’s myriad contributions to the subject and its teaching in Cambridge.
